Gina Clawson, LISW
Beginning therapy can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to navigate life's challenges alone. My goal is to provide a welcoming, supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change. My approach is rooted in authenticity, empathy, warmth, and curiosity, and I believe that the strongest therapeutic relationships are built through trust, collaboration, and mutual respect.
Whether you're struggling with the effects of trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship concerns, or difficult life transitions, I will work alongside you to better understand your experiences and develop practical tools that support lasting healing. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor therapy to your unique needs, strengths, and goals while honoring that you are the expert on your own life.
Together, we'll identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, build on your existing strengths, and develop new ways of coping that align with the life you want to live. My hope is that you leave each session feeling supported, challenged when appropriate, and equipped with skills you can carry into everyday life.
To provide individualized care, I draw from a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Substance Use Disorders (CBT-SUD), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Grief Disorder Therapy (PGDT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). These evidence-based approaches allow us to create a treatment plan that is thoughtfully tailored to your specific concerns rather than fitting you into a predetermined model.
I bring more than a decade of experience in the mental health field and have worked with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of settings. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Wright State University with a minor in Sexuality Studies, providing a broad understanding of human development, relationships, and sexuality. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a Registered Behavior Technician supporting children on the autism spectrum and as a Mental Health Technician helping adolescents and adults experiencing psychiatric crises.
Most recently, I have had the privilege of serving as a therapist with the Department of Veterans Affairs, where I specialize in trauma and addiction treatment. I have extensive experience helping individuals recover from traumatic experiences, navigate substance use and recovery, process grief and loss, and build healthier, more fulfilling lives. Whether you're coping with the lasting effects of trauma, struggling with addiction, or feeling overwhelmed by life's challenges, my goal is to help you find hope, healing, and resilience.
I am committed to continual growth as a clinician so I can provide the highest quality care to my clients. As part of that commitment, I am currently pursuing certification through EMDRIA. I am accepting a limited number of new clients interested in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) who are interested in participating in this process while I complete EMDRIA-approved training.
Healing isn't about becoming someone different—it's about discovering the strength that's already within you and learning how to move forward with greater confidence, resilience, and self-compassion. It would be an honor to walk alongside you on your journey.
